What will the CUT40 plasma cutter cut?
Any conductive metal: mild steel, stainless and aluminium. Rated for a clean cut to 10mm mild steel and 6mm aluminium, with a rougher severance cut a little thicker. It makes light work of sheet, box section, plate and old farm gear that a grinder would take all day on.
What do I need to run it?
Compressed air and a power point. It wants a steady supply of clean dry air, roughly 4 to 5 CFM at 60 to 70 PSI, so a 40 to 50 litre compressor like the AC5014502X is a comfortable match. A built in water trap and regulator are on the machine. It runs on a 15 amp plug.
What is in the box?
The 40 amp inverter plasma cutter, a PT31 torch with lead, a set of PT31 consumables, quick connect air fittings, a 200 amp earth clamp and lead, and the manual.
How long do the consumables last?
Tips and electrodes are wear parts. Expect an hour or two of cutting per set depending on thickness and how clean the air is. Dry air is the biggest factor, so drain your compressor and let the water trap do its job. Replacement PT31 consumables are cheap and stocked.
Is it hard to use?
No. Set the amps for the thickness, clamp the earth, pull the trigger and drag the torch along a straight edge. It is far easier than cutting straight with a grinder and there is no heat distortion to speak of. Wear a shade 5 lens, not a welding helmet shade.
