Diesel Heaters NZ

Diesel heaters for workshops, sheds and building sites, priced $789 to $1,240. Radiant models (16kW and 21kW) throw heat at people and gear without moving much air, so they suit dusty or draughty spaces. Direct-fire fan-forced models push hot air through a big space fast. Direct-fire heaters need ventilation, so check the product page before using one in an enclosed shed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What fuel does a diesel heater use?
Ordinary road diesel from the pump. Some models also run on kerosene or heating oil, which the manual will say. Keep the fuel clean and the tank cap on, because water or dirt in diesel blocks the nozzle and stops the heater lighting.
Radiant or direct fire diesel heater?
Radiant heaters, the 16kW and 21kW here, warm people and surfaces in front of them like the sun, without blowing air around, so they suit dusty workshops and spray areas. Direct fire fan forced heaters, 17kW to 51kW, push a stream of hot air and heat a big open space fast. Both need fresh air.
How big a space will a diesel heater heat?
As a rough guide allow 100 watts per square metre for an uninsulated shed with a 3 metre stud. That makes the 16kW good for about 150 square metres, the 21kW for 200, the 37kW for 350 and the 51kW for 500. Halve those numbers for a draughty building with the doors open.
Can I use a diesel heater indoors or leave it on overnight?
Only in a well ventilated space, and never in a room where people sleep. Direct fire heaters release combustion gases into the room, so they are for workshops, sheds and sites with an open door or vent, not houses. Do not run one unattended overnight.
How long does a diesel heater run on a tank?
Diesel gives about 10kWh per litre, so a 16kW heater burns around 1.6 litres an hour at full output, a 21kW about 2 litres, a 37kW about 3.7 and a 51kW about 5. Divide the tank size on the product page by that figure, and expect longer on a thermostat.
Can a diesel heater heat a house?
Not these ones. Workshop diesel heaters vent exhaust into the room they are heating, which is fine in a shed with airflow and unsafe in a house. For a house, caravan or boat you want a flued diesel heater with a ducted outlet, which is a different product.
