Inverter Generators NZ

Inverter generators from 2.4kVA to 11.8kVA, priced $1,653 to $3,421. An inverter generator makes clean, pure sine wave power, so you can run a laptop, a fridge or power tools off it without risking the electronics. The compact 2.4kVA suits camping and caravans, and the open-frame models from 4.4kVA up cover home backup, sites and farm sheds. Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an inverter generator?
If you will plug in anything with a circuit board, a phone, laptop, TV, modern fridge, caravan controller or battery charger, yes. An inverter generator keeps voltage and frequency steady and total harmonic distortion under 3%, so sensitive electronics run the way they do on mains power.
What is the downside of an inverter generator?
Price per kVA is higher than a conventional generator, closed-case models need clear airflow around them, and the big outputs get heavy. Open-frame inverter models, like the 4.4kVA and up here, are the middle ground: clean power at a lower price and weight than a fully enclosed unit.
What size inverter generator for camping or a caravan?
The 2.4kVA model runs lights, a fridge, phone and laptop chargers and a TV with room to spare. If you want to run a caravan air conditioner or a microwave as well, step up to 3.5 to 4.4kVA. Check the start-up draw of the air conditioner first, it is usually two to three times the running figure.
Will an inverter generator run power tools?
Yes. A 4.4kVA inverter runs a 2,000W tool with headroom, and the 6.8kVA and 9.4kVA units cover compressors, drop saws and welders up to their surge rating. Check the tool's start-up current, not just its plate wattage.
How loud is an inverter generator?
Quieter than a conventional generator because the engine slows down when the load drops. Expect roughly 55 to 65 dB at 7 metres at a quarter load, about the level of normal conversation. Fully enclosed models are quieter again. Noise figures are on each product page.
What is the largest inverter generator you sell?
The 11.8kVA open frame unit, which gives 9,500W of continuous pure sine wave power. That is enough to run a house through a changeover switch or a site with several tools going. Below it sit 9.4kVA, 6.8kVA, 4.4kVA and the 2.4kVA you can carry in one hand.
Are inverter generators more fuel efficient?
Yes. A conventional generator runs at a fixed 3,000 rpm whatever the load. An inverter generator throttles the engine down when you are only drawing a few hundred watts, which can halve fuel use overnight on a fridge and a few lights, and it cuts noise at the same time.
