Frequently Asked Questions

How many lumens do I need in a work light?
300 to 600 lumens for under the bonnet or inside a cabinet. 1,000 to 2,000 lumens to light a bench or an engine bay. 5,000 to 10,000 lumens on a tripod to light a whole workshop bay or a site at night. The GrizzlyPRO MACH range covers 2,200 to 10,000 lumens.
Rechargeable, corded or cordless tool battery?
Rechargeable USB lights are the handiest for mechanics and anyone moving around. Corded lights never run flat and suit a fixed bench. Hybrid lights like the GrizzlyPRO MACH run on their own battery or mains power, so the light does not die mid job. See the rechargeable work lights for the cordless options.
What is the best work light for a mechanic?
A rechargeable magnetic light with a swivel hook, so it sticks to the chassis or hangs off the bonnet and leaves both hands free. Add a head torch for under the dash. The under bonnet bar is the next step up for daily use.
Are work lights waterproof?
Most are splash and rain resistant, usually IP54 or IP65, which is fine for a site in the wet. They are not for standing in water or hosing down. The IP rating is on each product page.
How much do LED work lights cost in NZ?
From $10 for a pocket LED light to $562 for a 10,000 lumen hybrid site light. A good rechargeable magnetic light for the workshop is $50 to $130. Tripods and batteries for the site lights are sold separately.
