FAQs

What can the MMA160 weld?
Stick welding on farm gear, structural repairs, trailers and anything outdoors or rusty. The pulse MMA function is the standout: it lets you run thinner material without blowing through, and adjustable hot start and arc force stop the rod sticking. The LED screen shows a rod size and thickness guide.
What is pulse stick welding for?
Thin material. A normal stick arc puts constant heat in and burns through anything under about 2mm. Pulse alternates high and low current so the pool cools between pulses, which lets you weld thin box section and sheet with a stick machine. It also makes vertical and overhead welds easier to control.
What thickness of steel will it handle?
1.6mm to 4.0mm electrodes on a 10 amp plug, which covers 2mm sheet through to 10mm plate with the right rod and technique. Lift TIG on mild and stainless with the optional torch.
What plug does it run on?
A standard 10 amp household plug, so it runs off any garage or shed socket. Keep extension leads short and heavy gauge.
What is in the box?
The MMA160 power source, twist lock electrode holder with 4 metre lead, 300 amp earth clamp with 3 metre lead, carry strap and manual. Rods, helmet and gloves are separate.
Is it any good for a beginner?
Stick is a little harder to learn than MIG, but the hot start and arc force on this machine make striking and holding an arc far easier than an old transformer welder. Expect a weekend of practice on scrap before you stop sticking the rod.
What warranty does it have?
12 months through the New Zealand importer. Keep the receipt as proof of purchase.
Do you deliver NZ-wide?
Yes, to every address in New Zealand. Orders over $200 ship free to most urban addresses. Rural and island addresses may carry a surcharge that shows at checkout. South Island deliveries usually arrive in two working days from dispatch, North Island two to three.
