What can the MIG200 Pulse weld?
Mild steel, stainless and aluminium with MIG, stick and TIG. The single and double pulse modes give the stacked dime look on aluminium and stainless, control heat on thin sheet, and the dedicated aluminium and steel programs on the colour screen set it up for you. This is the machine for fabricators and anyone welding aluminium boats, trailers or canopies.
What does pulse MIG actually do?
The machine switches between a high current that melts the wire and a low current that lets the pool cool, many times a second. You get deep fusion with less heat in the job, so thin sheet does not warp or burn through and aluminium welds look like TIG. Double pulse adds a slower second rhythm that gives the rippled bead.
What thickness of steel will it handle?
Up to about 8mm mild steel in a single pass. Pulse mode lets it weld thin sheet and aluminium without burning through.
What plug does it run on?
A 15 amp plug, the type with the larger earth pin. Most garages only have 10 amp sockets, and an electrician can add a 15 amp outlet for a modest cost. Running a 200 amp class machine at full output needs that supply.
Gas or gasless?
Both. It takes 15kg D300 and 5kg D200 spools, with a gear drive feeder that handles soft aluminium wire.
What is in the box?
The MIG200 Pulse power source with torch, earth lead and electrode holder. Helmet, gloves, wire and gas are separate.
Is it any good for a beginner?
The synergic programs make it easy to set up, but pulse welding and aluminium are skills to grow into. If you are starting out on steel, a MIG160 or MIG200DS costs less and does the job. Buy this one if aluminium or stainless is in your future.
What warranty does it have?
12 months through the New Zealand importer. Keep the receipt as proof of purchase.
