What is a raised panel spanner?
A ring and open end spanner with a raised ridge down the shank, which stiffens it so a long, heavy spanner does not flex under load. That is why the big sizes from 33mm up are made this way. The ring end is 12 point and offset to clear your knuckles.
Who needs spanners this big?

People do, and it bends spanners and breaks knuckles. If a spanner this size will not shift a nut with body weight, the nut wants a slogging spanner or an impact wrench with the right 3/4 inch impact socket. Penetrating oil and heat come before the pipe.
