If you've ever rounded off a brake line fitting with a standard open end spanner, you know exactly why flare nut spanners exist. This Powerbuilt 3-piece flare nut spanner set is the tool to have when you're working on brake lines, fuel lines, power steering lines, and hydraulic fittings.
The difference is in the jaw. A flare nut spanner wraps around five or six faces of the fitting instead of two. That grip matters on line fittings because the soft metal rounds off easily and a rounded fitting is expensive to fix. Use a standard spanner on a soft brake line fitting and you'll be back at the parts store. Use a flare nut spanner and it comes loose cleanly.
