What welding equipment do I need to start?
A welder, an auto darkening helmet, gloves and the right consumable: wire for MIG or electrodes for stick. Add a chipping hammer, wire brush and a welding magnet or two to hold the work square. The ready to weld packages in the welding machines range bundle most of that.
What is the best welder for a beginner in NZ?
A gasless MIG. It runs off a 10A plug, needs no gas bottle and gives a usable weld on the first afternoon. The MIG120 at $298 suits light repairs, the MIG160 at $484 handles steel up to 6mm. See the MIG welders for the full line up.
Which welding helmet should I buy?

Do your MIG consumables fit my torch?
Weldco tips, nozzles, diffusers and tip adaptors are Binzel style and fit MB15, MB24, MB25 and MB36 torches, which covers most MIG welders sold in New Zealand. Check your torch model on the handle and match it to the part number. Kits for each torch are listed under welding consumables.
Gas or gasless MIG wire?
Gasless flux cored wire needs no bottle and works outdoors. Gas with solid wire gives cleaner welds indoors. Weldco solid wire runs from 0.7kg spools at $28 to 15kg at $134, and gasless wire comes in 4.5kg spools. See MIG wires for sizes.
Do you ship welders and gas cylinders?
Welders, helmets and consumables ship nationwide, free over $200. We do not sell or ship gas cylinders. Rent or buy argon and CO2 mix from BOC, Supagas or your local gas supplier, and use the regulator that comes with the welder package.
