Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best tool kit for a mechanic in NZ?
For a working mechanic, a tool chest and roller cabinet with tools fitted. The Powerbuilt 253 piece 41 inch chest and tools at $2,663 covers 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch sockets, spanners, ratchets, pliers and screwdrivers in foam trays, so you see what is missing at a glance. The 294 piece and 317 piece sets add the roller cabinet and more drive sizes.
What is a good home tool kit?
A socket set, a spanner set and a few pliers and screwdrivers cover most household jobs. The Powerbuilt 1/4 inch 30 piece socket set at $91 is a good core, add a spanner set and a screwdriver set and you are set for cars, bikes and flatpack furniture.
Is it cheaper to buy a tool kit or individual tools?
A kit, by a wide margin. The tool and chest combos work out at a few dollars per piece and include the storage. Buying the same sockets, spanners and ratchets separately costs more and leaves you organising them yourself. Buy single tools only to fill gaps or replace losses.
What do the piece counts actually include?
Every socket, bit, spanner, extension and ratchet counts as a piece, so a 253 piece kit is not 253 different tools. Look at the drive sizes and the socket range in the product listing instead. A kit with 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive and sockets from 4mm to 32mm covers nearly every nut on a vehicle.
Do tool kits come with a warranty?
Powerbuilt hand tools in the kits are covered by a lifetime warranty, and the chests and cabinets by a 12 month warranty on drawers, slides and castors. Lost or worn individual pieces can be bought separately from the sockets and drive tools range.
Is freight included on the big tool chest sets?
Yes, every order over $200 ships free within New Zealand, including the chest and roller cabinet combos. They go by freight on a pallet, so allow a little longer than a courier parcel and have someone around to receive it.
