Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use an impact socket on a normal ratchet?
Yes. Impact sockets work fine on a hand ratchet or power bar. The rule only runs one way: never put a chrome hand socket on an impact wrench, because chrome steel can shatter under shock load.
6 point or 12 point for impact work?
6 point. The socket grips the flats of the nut instead of the corners, so it will not round off a tight or rusted fastener. Every set on this page is 6 point.
Deep or standard impact sockets?
Standard sockets suit most nuts and bolt heads. Deep sockets reach nuts on long studs, wheel nuts on some utes, and suspension bolts. Most workshops end up with one of each in 1/2 inch drive.
What drive size do I need?
1/2 inch drive covers wheel nuts, suspension and most car and ute work, and it is what most impact wrenches take. 3/4 inch drive is for trucks, machinery and big fasteners over 24mm.
